Karin Waldis
received her training as a classical flower painter at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Copenhagen, Denmark. Between 1962 and 1971 she was resident in the USA and then she chose Switzerland as the base for her own painting studio which she has had since 1978. In 2002, her first book was published by Callwey Publishers in Munich. The artist lives with her husband, the photographer Al Waldis, in Seuzach near Zurich.

Despite her classical training, Karin Waldis seldom paints flower motifs. Her motifs are romantically and nostalgically stressed; the painter often creates new and very individual children’s book heroes similar to archetypal figures with happy personage such as comical teddy bears, funny mouse families or “odd ball characters”. Her strength lies in her versatility; in Switzerland she became particularly well known for her bird painting and people like to invite her to presentations on this theme and often abroad.

Mrs Waldis also regularly gives seminars in Germany and Belgium and takes part every year at Swiss fairs, like the one in Martigny in Wallis. Every October she is a guest at a local event which, essentially, she jointly organises. Her works are present at numerous further exhibitions and they have already received many awards. The painter and her current work are frequently presented to an interested audience in the relevant porcelain painting magazines such as “Magie des Arts”.
