I met Mrs. Kishida in person whilst visiting an exhibition organized by Mrs. Bergoin in Lyon/France in 2011 and was unaware of her rapid climb to being a great talent. I was most impressed with her charming personality and her typical Japanese reserved, shy manner – very much a likeable person from the very start! I also found the theme of lace being shown as an example of a porcelain painting technique to be very interesting and immediately requested she send a few examples of her work to me per e-mail. And so it came to pass that in 2012 I decided to follow the new Retro-Trend of designs in fine and delicate lace – something that seems to have gathered quite a number of followers in the last year. I had the idea to continue with unusual and exciting patterns and designs first shown in the scratch techniques on lustres, developed by Sabine Grossenbacher/Bacchetta and who is now one of the famous artists in that field. So I had the choice of many lace samples from Shuko to work with – a very welcome and new introduction. The actual decision for me to print a new book came quite quickly and I thank Mrs. Kishida most sincerely for choosing me to be her publisher. I am also greatly indebted to my author Keiko Shimizu (a fantastic artist specializing in the traditional, puristic Japanese style) who gave me her personal assistance with all the arranging and special background information.
Above all, I wish that all my readers can gather new and exciting ideas from these inspiring works and be able to further their knowledge in porcelain painting.
